In 2004, cinch (Cam Smith) and Ryan Trann met while studying audio engineering at the Art Institute of Vancouver-Burnaby. They became friends and created “Inkwell”, a product of two minds from vastly different backgrounds. The two bring their musical flavours together to produce a unique combination of techno and house; aggressiveness and subtlety. Rocking homemade gear in their live performance, these two Canadians are involved in all aspects of techno production. Truly jacks of all trades, you’ll find them designing sounds, hardware, and software, all as a means to an end; a seriously bumpin’ dance floor. Minimal Techno is the backbone of their set, but it often veers in other more diverse territory without warning. Their spontaneity and improvisation when playing live, provides for a unique experience each time and the energy they put forth on stage translates to the studio effortlessly. Their productions vary, mixing genres and ideals, but in the end it always comes out sounding fresh and clean. Based in Vancouver, they’ve been performing in and around western Canada since 2006 as a part of the Danksoul Recordings crew, with whom they release with. Recently they have had releases on Pheek's label Archipel Musique and Mathew Jonson's Wagon repair. Currently they are slated to release Danksoul Recordings first 12" entitled "Inkwell - Knee Socks" with support from Hrdvsion as a remixer. Set to come out in February 2010.
THOM BANKS
Thom Banks has been a staple in the dance music community in the City of Gardens since 1998. His blend of house music ranges from jackin' house to minimal tech funk to deep techno house to straight-up house music. Thom has earned himself many residencies over the years and has been invited to play at the best festivals, parties and nightclubs, including numerous Lotus Long Weekends @ the Lotus Sound Lounge in Vancouver, Full Moon Parties in Thailand, slick beach clubs in Mexico, and of course, Soundwave, west coast Canada's fabled 3-day electronic music festival.
His tight mixing, unparalleled track selection and keen ability in interpreting his crowd on the dance floor has allowed him to play alongside names such as Mathew Jonson, Dave Seaman, Mark Farina, Lawnchair Generals, The Mole, Bassnectar and Dirt Crew, just to name a few. Often considered a DJ's favourite DJ, Thom can lay down beats that are subtle and smooth or thick and chunky - either way, his selection and mixing always breaks new ground.
We're pleased to still have Dos Equis Beer on Special for $5.50!
